The difference between HPMC and MHEC in dry-mix application
1. Chemical structure
HPMC: Contains hydroxypropyl (-O-CH2-CHOH-CH3) and methyl (-O-CH3) substituents.
MHEC: Contains methyl (-O-CH3) and hydroxyethyl (-O-CH2-CH2-OH) substituents.
2. Gelation temperature
HPMC: The thermal gelation temperature is low (about 50-70℃), and it is easy to gel at high temperatures, which may limit its use in hot climates.
MHEC: The thermal gelation temperature is high (usually 80-90℃), which is more stable at high temperatures and suitable for hot environments.
3.Water retention
Under normal temperature conditions, there is basically no difference.
When the ambient temperature is higher than 40 degrees Celsius, the water retention of MHEC is better than that of HPMC.
4.Temperature stability
Compared with MHPC, the chemical structure of MHEC has more hydrophilic groups, so it is more stable at high temperatures, that is, it has good thermal stability.
5. Cost
HPMC has a wide range of uses and a high cost-effectiveness, making it the mainstream choice for dry-mix mortar.
