DRY MORTAR RELATED ADDITIVES AND CHEMICALS

  1.THE CONTENT OF DRY MORTAR PRODUCTS: 

  (1)  Aggregates: stones, sand etc

  (2)  Adhesive: Cement or gypsum. 

  (3)  Additives: Cellulose ether, redispersible polymer powder, water reducer(PCE),PP firber etc. 

   2.MAIN ADDITIVES / CHEMICALS IN DRY MIX MORTAR AND PERFORMANCE. 

  (1) Cellulose ether: HPMC-hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose ; HEMC-Hydroxyethyl methyl cellulose 

  Cellulose ether-HPMC or HEMC is the most important chemicals in dry mix mortar formulation.  

  Good water retention is the important for the adhesives(cement or gypsum) hydration. 

  Meanwhile, make sure other additives work. At the same time, cellulose ether also have other 

  functions in the formuliation: 

  -Improve the workability 

  -slip / sag - resistence 

  -adjust open time

  -water demand 

  -Increase bonding strength and compressive strength

  Cellulose ether(HPMC,HEMC) is required to be added in all types of dry mix mortar 

  (2) Redispersible polymer powder (RPP) 

   Redispersible polymer powder(RPP / RDP) is one of the important additives in dry mix mortar. 

   Choose different type of RDP could increase the bonding strength or dry mortar and increase the 

   flexibility. Meanwhile, it can also make contribution on the workability and waterproofing. 

   It is widely used in tile adhesive, wall plaster or EIFS mortar etc. 

  (3) Starch ether 

  Normally, starch ether is used together with cellulose ether. It could improve the water retention and 

  workability. In the same time, it could be helpful in extending the open time and reach better 

  consistency.
